Mortenson Hosts Two Massive Build-A-Bike® Team Events In Minneapolis

Mortenson turned one normal day into a full-scale Build-A-Bike® team building marathon with two separate events happening in Minneapolis. Nearly 200 employees participated between the two programs, with one group gathering at Club Purple inside U.S. Bank Stadium and another filling the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel Convention Center later that same day. Across both events, teams raced through challenges, built bicycles, and donated a total of 22 bikes to local youth organizations. The back-to-back experiences brought plenty of energy, friendly rivalry, and community impact to an already packed day.

Mortenson is a U.S.-based builder, developer, and provider of energy and engineering services. Mortenson Teams Fill U.S. Bank Stadium With Competition and Fast-Paced Energy

The first event kicked off inside Club Purple at U.S. Bank Stadium, where roughly 70 participants took over the space overlooking both downtown Minneapolis and the Vikings field. The atmosphere felt loud from the start as returning participants immediately jumped into the competition and started calling out answers before some teams had even settled into their seats. Groups moved quickly through the challenges while trying to outpace each other in assembling bikes.

The event had the kind of controlled chaos that somehow worked perfectly. Teams scrambled between clues, bike parts, and strategy discussions while still managing to keep things fun the entire time. By the end of the session, the group completed 10 bicycles for Minneapolis Public Schools. The bikes will help students from Sullivan School participate in a large city-wide youth event that many otherwise may not have access to. The charity partners also helped keep the donation process organized and seamless throughout the afternoon.

Mortenson Brings Another 120 Employees Together for Second Minneapolis Bike Build

Later that day, another huge group of Mortenson employees packed into The Depot – Renaissance Hotel Convention Center for round two. Around 120 participants filled the room, and since many had already participated in previous events, the competitive level ramped up almost immediately. Nearly half the group had done the Build-A-Bike® before, so teams wasted no time diving into the challenges and claiming workspace.

Even with the packed setup, the room somehow stayed organized enough for teams to keep moving at full speed. One of the biggest moments came from Team #6, whose entire team cheer consisted of one perfectly timed clap. It lasted maybe a second, but it completely won over the judges and got one of the biggest laughs of the day. Between the nonstop movement, team banter, and race to finish the builds, the event felt more like a live competition than a typical corporate meeting activity.

By the end of the second event, the group completed 12 more bicycles for ACES for Kids. The organization will use the bikes as rewards for students working toward academic achievement and educational goals. Jazmin and the ACES for Kids team once again helped make the donation process smooth and meaningful for everyone involved.
