Nomura Ends Amazing Leadership Day with Build-A-Bike® in NYC

Nomura wrapped up a full day of leadership development in NYC, New York with a Build-A-Bike® charity team building event. The participants were the firm’s newest VP hires, brought together for an immersive introduction to working and leading at Nomura. After hours of professional development content, the group competed through team challenges, assembled bicycles, and donated the finished bikes to BronxConnect. It was an active, hands-on close to an already full day.

Nomura is one of Japan’s largest and most recognized financial services groups, with major operations across investment banking, wealth management, and asset management. The firm has been a significant force in global finance for over a century. Nomura’s New York City office is the firm’s primary hub for the Americas, making the city central to its global strategy and client relationships.

Nomura VP Hires Put Leadership Training Into Practice at Build-A-Bike® Event in NYC, New York

Starting a VP career at a global investment bank comes with a specific kind of pressure. There is a room full of talented peers to figure out, an organization to understand, and a lot to prove. The leadership development portion of the day gave everyone a shared framework for how to lead and collaborate. The bike build at the end gave them a live test of it.

Teams competed through fast-moving challenges that rewarded clear communication, smart task division, and decision-making under uncertainty. The groups that applied those principles built faster. The others had to adapt mid-activity, which is also a useful thing to practice early in a new role.

BronxConnect received the finished bikes to distribute to residents across the Bronx. For a group of new VP hires based in Midtown Manhattan, the donation connected them to a nearby community in a tangible way. It was a concrete close on a day built entirely around leading and contributing, this time outside the firm.

We appreciate Nomura for building a day where professional development and charitable giving were part of the same experience. That combination is harder to forget than either half would be on its own.
