40 of Wells Fargo’s credit department finished their new-hire training with a Build-A-Bike® team-building event in Charlotte, North Carolina. The group was a mix of brand-new hires and internal transfers, and it was their first project as one team. They built 8 bikes, all donated to Young Explorers Centers, which supports children and families in the Charlotte area.

Wells Fargo New Hires Donate 8 Bikes During Build-A-Bike® Team-Building Event in Charlotte, NC
At Wells Fargo, Build-A-Bike® has become a tradition. The credit department now holds the event every year as part of new hire training.
This year’s group had people at two different starting points. Some were brand new to Wells Fargo. Others were internal transfers who already knew the company’s culture. That mix played out at the build tables. Transfers helped newer hires settle in as teams worked through the bikes together. By the time all eight bikes were done, the group was working as one team.
For a training program built around getting new people up to speed, building bikes together was a practical way to finish. New hires had to communicate, divide up the work, and rely on coworkers they had just met.
8 Bikes and a Face to the Cause
Renee Goodwin of Young Explorers Centers came to the event and spoke to the group about the children and families her organization serves. Hearing directly from her gave the new hires a clear picture of who would be riding the 8 bikes, which made the handoff more meaningful.
Thank You, Wells Fargo
