High Point University launched the school year in a big way with a Build-A-Bike® charity team building event in High Point, NC, on August 17th. This long-standing tradition for incoming freshmen went next level when kids from local community partners received their bikes that very same day. All 1,500 freshmen didn’t just build bikes, they watched the impact happen in real time. As children hopped on their brand-new bicycles and rode off smiling, the auditorium buzzed with excitement. The energy was loud, contagious, and impossible to miss, making this kickoff event one to remember.

High Point University Freshmen Team Up for Build-A-Bike® Event in High Point, North Carolina
Inside the auditorium, freshmen split into teams and jumped straight into action. With the clock ticking, groups worked side by side to assemble bikes as quickly as possible. For many students, this marked their first real bonding moment on campus. Cheering echoed across the room, high-fives flew, and problem-solving happened fast. Then came the big surprise. When the children arrived to receive their bikes, the room erupted. The applause was thunderous, the smiles were endless, and the moment hit everyone right in the heart.
Three local nonprofits—D-UP Inc., Growing the Distance, and the Community Writing Center—partnered in making the day possible. Representatives from each organization shared how much these bicycles would mean to the children they serve. Watching kids light up as they received their bikes drove the message home. Service, teamwork, and community can create powerful change, especially when 1,500 people rally together.
A huge thank you to High Point University for putting so much heart into this year’s Build-A-Bike event. We also thank D-UP Inc., Growing the Distance, and the Community Writing Center for helping make the day unforgettable.
