Kimley-Horn Build-A-Bike® Charity Team-Building Event in Denver, CO

Kimley-Horn’s Mountain Pacific Region hosted a Build-a-Bike® charity team-building event in Denver, Colorado. The annual Kick-Off celebration and regional meeting was held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. The theme was a Sea to Summit Music Festival, and the main event was a bicycle-building team activity in Denver, CO. By the end of it, 750 team members had built 96 bikes, all donated to Denver Public Schools.

The hotel ballroom didn’t look like a meeting space. It was set up like a music festival, and the room had the energy to match.

The region split into small teams. Each team worked through a series of challenges to earn its bike parts, and friendly competition spread across the room. Senior leaders and brand-new team members worked side by side, which doesn’t happen often at a 750-person regional meeting. For newer employees, it was a chance to work alongside leaders. For leaders, it was a chance to get to know the people joining their teams.

Kimley-Horn is known for creative solutions and a strong sense of urgency, and both showed up at the build tables. As the clock ran down, a final countdown pulled the whole region together to finish the last bikes.

The 96-Bike Reveal

When the countdown hit zero, the region revealed all 96 finished bikes. Representatives from Denver Public Schools were there to accept the donation on behalf of students across the district. It was an emotional finish to the Kick-Off and a reminder of what 750 people can build when they work toward the same goal.
