A Charity Bike Build Helps Subway Co-op Shift Gears in Miami, Florida

The group came to Miami for a full day of planning meetings. They finished the whole agenda. Then, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., they took part in a Build-A-Bike® team-building event.

The managers split into six teams. Each team took on a series of challenges to earn bike parts. Every win brought a team closer to a full set. Once a team had every part, they raced to put together a bike a child could ride safely.

The evening start time created one problem. The kids who would get the bikes could not be there that late. So Susana Vela of Amigos For Kids found another way to bring them into the room. She showed photos of the children. Then she shared a little about each one.

Those photos made the build personal. The managers were no longer building bikes for kids they would never meet. They knew the faces of the children who would ride them. Susana’s stories made a real impact on the group.

The team donated all six bikes to Amigos For Kids. The Miami nonprofit has worked since 1991 to strengthen families and communities across South Florida.

A long day of planning ended with six bikes for six Miami kids. Have a meeting coming up in South Florida? A charity bike build gives your team a great way to close it out.
